More on Process for Constitutional Reform

I appreciate this newsletter has been a little quiet recently. This is not due to a lack of anything to say. Since the Government's Caricom Green Paper was released, I have been spending a lot of time going through it. There are major implications in terms of immigration and of the rights of long term residents, but I am taking my time to get my analysis right before I publish anything. So watch this space, but today's update is on process for constitutional reform.

The Premier today released a statement with further updates on a process for Constitutional reform. I have written about this previously.

Although the original election platform and throne speech commitments were specifically about revising Belonger status, more recent announcements have focussed on a process for reform, and today's announcement was in this vein.

The Premier says that he has written to the Opposition Leader, the Chief Justice, President of the Senate, Speaker of the House to provide them with the draft recommendations. He says there is a five-phase pathway for reform:
