Throne Speech reiterates review of belonger status

As expected, based on previous announcements, today's Throne Speech re-stated a commitment to a consultative process on reviewing belonger status. I have written in more detail about the possible implications of that, here. This is said to be intended as part of a broader review of the 1968 Constitution, also looking at reducing the number of seats in the House of Assembly, and absentee voting for residents (meaning Bermudian residents) and students overseas.

The speech says that policy work on the precise nature of that consultative process has begun and a report will be introduced for the consideration of the legislature.

The choice of topics they wish to review is very much a case of seizing on things that happen to have hit headlines recently. There may well be other areas that would benefit from review. One wonders whether there is going to be any way by which other constitutional issues can be raised?
