Joining Caricom
Another announcement in the recent Throne Speech concerned opening up a consultation process on whether Bermuda should become a full member of Caricom. This has triggered discussion on the free movement aspects of Caricom, whereby nationals of various Caribbean countries can live and work freely throughout the Caricom bloc.
Caricom is an organisation of a dozen or more Caribbean states. Bermuda and some other British Overseas Territories have "associate membership" of Caricom, where they attend meetings etc but lack the benefits and obligations of full membership.
Within full membership of Caricom, there are different levels of involvement, and I shall focus only on the immigration aspects here.
