Budget statement released

David Burt has made his budget statement, and immigration fees are set to rise by 5% on the 1st April.

I would assume this will include PRC applications, meaning that anybody applying for PRC under the 20 year rule can expect to pay $500 more; and anybody applying under the Jobmaker's route can expect to pay $2500 more. These are substantial sums that mean there is an advantage in getting your application submitted prior to the 1st April if at all possible.

The Premier made a couple of other comments regarding immigration policy more generally. He referred to what he called "the first stages of comprehensive immigration reform", that he says "eliminated" the problem of mixed-status families, and extended permanent residency to "all" long-term residents. He then said:

These changes have had a positive effect, but as the statistics show, we must do more, and we must move more quickly.

He said they are currently engaging in further consultation regarding what those moves might be, and invited people to participate in that. For those interested, the consultation can be found here.
